Treacher Collins Syndrome is a condition that affects the growth and presence of the bones of Gabriel's head and face. Certain bones, such as cheek bones, the bones of the middle ear, and the jaw bone do not grow at the same rate as the rest of the bones in Gabriel's body.
   

 

PHYSICAL EFFECTS:

  • His ears are cusped and not fully formed.
  • The bones of his inner ear are not fully formed.
  • He has bone deficiency around the orbits of the eyes and his cheekbones.
  • His jaw bone is recessed, smaller is size, and missing bone density.
  • He has a significantly high pallate.

FUNCTIONAL EFFECTS:

  • He has mild to moderate hearing loss.
  • He has a hyper-sensitive gag reflex which makes it difficult to swallow (making eating difficult)
